Rusty or Discolored Hot Water
Brown, red, or rusty water from the hot side is a warning that internal corrosion is underway. Early action can still save the tank in some cases.

The sacrificial anode rod is designed to corrode first. When it is fully depleted, the steel tank begins to rust from the inside. Flushing may temporarily clear discoloration, but if the anode is gone the tank is on borrowed time.
We inspect the anode, flush the tank, and give you an honest assessment of remaining life. If the tank is already compromised, we discuss replacement options that meet California seismic code.
